Our escort network knew the girl as Monica. But that was never her real name. We always kept our real names secret to avoid backstabbing and arrests. Some of the men we offered these girls were too dangerous. These were drug lords, leaders of cartels, government spies and technocrats and presidents. Yes, I mean presidents of nations.

On the fateful day, a certain man rang our anonymous intel telephone number an claimed he was in Cape town for a weekend and wanted a girl to give him company. After discussing the price in rands and agreeing, I quickly rang one of the available girls. Monica picked and said she would be available. The man quickly made payment which I wired to Monica as had always been the norm. The girl always got her payment before she availed herself.

But my gut told me something was wrong with this man. His call, his voice tonation, his briefness and also, his assessment. I really felt terrible about this customer, but proceeded to offer him what he needed. The man even claimed his visa cards could not work, and so he paid with bitcoins. At the time, bitcoins were so valuable, and yes, we also used to accept payments via bitcoin.

Another security measure we always did was, the girl would pretend to show love to the man, then take a selfie with him and quickly route the selfie to our secure lines. We even had an app that could record every sound, every if possible take photos.

But that day, Monica never used all the security measures we had carefully trained for. Monica never even took a selfie, never turned on the app and never texted. She was missing fthrough out the whole time.

With so much fear, I quickly send in my rescue detail to go in, find the girl, rescue her as fast as possible. But instead I delayed to do this too. My mind was so occupied that it never crossed my mind. Then I held my phone and rang our rescue team but alas…..My heart was broken.
